DLP · Policy-Driven Data Protection

Data Loss Prevention That Acts on Policy

Sensitive data moves constantly through everyday work. GuardStance DLP detects policy violations in real time and enforces granular controls across endpoints, email, web uploads, cloud apps, and AI tools.

One Sensitive File. Different Business Activities.

Whether a confidential document is copied to a USB drive, attached to an email, uploaded through a browser, or pasted into an AI tool, GuardStance evaluates the file content, user context, and destination under a single policy.

Security teams can apply graduated responses—from silent monitoring to user justification or blocking—with complete audit evidence.

From Detection to the Right Response

Not every policy violation requires the same response. Some activities should be monitored. Others may require a user warning, additional context, or an immediate block.

GuardStance supports policy-driven responses that help organizations balance information protection with legitimate business activity.

  • Monitor

Gain full visibility into how sensitive data moves without interrupting users.

  • Warn

Prompt the user with policy guidance and require a business justification to proceed.

  • Record

Capture signed audit events, matched detectors, and evidence for investigation.

  • Block

Stop unauthorized transfers immediately before sensitive data leaves your control.

How does one policy decide?

  1. Know the data

Labels and the Detection Engine say what the file really is.

  2. See the channel

USB, print, email, web, a cloud app or an AI prompt.

  3. Decide

Monitor, warn, record or block, by data, user and destination.

  4. Explain

The user sees why; the analyst sees the evidence.

Where GuardStance Applies Data Protection

  • Endpoint

USB, print, clipboard, screenshots, sync folders and browser uploads.

  • Email

Inspect outbound emails and attachments to prevent accidental or unauthorized disclosures.

  • Web and network

Uploads, webmail and messaging on the way out.

  • Cloud apps

Control file uploads, downloads, and external sharing across connected cloud applications.

  • AI apps

Prompts and uploads are checked like any other channel.

  • Data at rest

Scan and classify files across endpoints, servers, and shares before data ever moves.

Questions about GuardStance DLP

How does data classification improve DLP?

Classification attaches a persistent sensitivity signal to the file itself. Instead of relying only on regex patterns or file names at the moment of transfer, DLP policies can act immediately on the file's classification label, content, and user context—dramatically cutting false positives.

Do we have to block from day one?

No. A phased approach allows security teams to begin with monitoring, review the results, and adjust policies before enabling warnings or blocking actions. The appropriate enforcement level depends on the sensitivity of the information and the business workflow.

What is the difference between Data Classification and DLP?

Data Classification identifies what a file is and labels it (visually and in metadata). DLP enforces what can happen to that file when someone tries to copy it to USB, print it, email it, upload it to the cloud, or paste it into an AI tool.
