Understand What Happened to Sensitive Data

An alert without context wastes analyst time. GuardStance Investigations brings file activity logs, user behavior signals, matched detectors, and signed evidence into a single view so analysts can resolve incidents fast.

An Event Is the Beginning of an Investigation

A policy violation does not automatically indicate malicious intent. The security team still needs to understand what information was involved, which activity triggered the policy, and what response followed.

GuardStance shows the complete timeline around a file—who created, renamed, copied, or uploaded it—so investigators can quickly separate innocent mistakes from real insider risk.

How does an investigation work?

  1. Record activity

Who opened, copied, renamed, printed or moved classified files.

  2. Add the context

User, device, destination and behavior signals around the event.

  3. Check the policy

Which policy was triggered, and why.

  4. Review the incident

Examine recorded events and supporting evidence.

What does the analyst get?

  • File activity log

Every action on classified data, on endpoints and servers.

  • Policy context

Which rule matched, which detector fired, and the exact threshold reached.

  • Activity details

User identity, endpoint name, application, destination account, and timestamp.

  • Behavior signals

File movement and user behavior, shown in the incident context.

  • Signed evidence

Each event says what matched, which rule and why.

  • Incident review

Group related events into cases, assign reviewers, and export signed audit reports.

Questions about investigations

Is this employee surveillance?

No. This is not employee surveillance. Content is only recorded when a policy matches. The aim is to understand what happened around sensitive data, not to watch people. A policy event is a starting point for a fair review, not a verdict about an employee.

What can we show an auditor?

Every event carries what was detected, which rule matched and why, the user, the destination and the action taken. Events are signed, so what you show the auditor is what actually happened. Report templates cover GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS and ISO 27001.

Can we import our old DLP policies?

Yes. Policies can be imported from other DLP products to shorten a migration, so you do not start from a blank page. The import is checked and tuned during the proof of concept.
